Suggested Preventative Maintenance

Yes - we fix cars. But our goal is to maintain your car, not fix it. Preventative maintenance saves you money! Vehicle maintenance is just like brushing your teeth or going to the gym to workout. It takes time and commitment.

The benefits to your vehicle are the same as to your health. A vehicle properly maintained and kept three years after your payments end will save you $20,000 to $30,000.

Every time you visit our facility, we will raise the hood and check all the vital fluids. Our service team will then make maintenance recommendations based on the condition of these fluids, the odometer reading, and the time interval since your last service.

For your convenience, we are attaching a Service Interval Schedule developed by the Car Care Council to help you keep track of regular maintenance needs too.

Battery Service

Summer is the season for major car-battery problems. Heat, not cold, shortens battery life, says the Car Care Council.

Excessive heat and overcharging are thus the main reasons for shortened battery life. Heat causes battery fluid to evaporate, thus damaging the internal structure of the battery. A malfunctioning component in the charging system, usually the voltage regulator, allows too high a charging rate. That s slow death for a battery.

    We then thoroughly inspect your battery
    We apply a leak detector to check for leaks or deterioration

Alignment

Cooling system neglect is cited as a principal reason for mechanical failure of a vehicle. In addition to the danger and inconvenience of a breakdown, the damage to the engine and transmission can add up to thousands of dollars. Discovering a leaking radiator, hose connection, a sticking thermostat or other cooling system component that s on "borrowed time" can save the life of one s engine. Additionally, overheating can damage valve guides, scuff pistons, crask cylinder heads, and crush head gaskets.

What We Do

According to AAA, cooling system failures are one of the leading causes of vehicle break-downs on the highway. Yet most of these breakdowns can be prevented by the following preventative maintenance and repairs that are available at Good Works Auto Repair:

Check the coolant level, concentration and condition
    Check for leaks
    The entire cooling system is cleaned
    Coolant is completely flushed from the system
    We add fresh new premium coolant
    Conditioners are also included to prevent rust and corrosion
    BG Cooling System Sealer is included to prevent leaks
    We inspect belts and hoses
    If needed - we replace any parts that are found to be leaking or failing
    We check - and if needed - replace damaged or worn out water pump

Differential Service

Car wheels spin at different speeds, especially when turning. Each wheel travels a different distance through the turns, and that the inside wheels travel a shorter distance thatn the outside wheels. Since speed is equal to the distance traveled divided by the time it takes to go that distance, the wheels that travel a shorter distance travel at a lower speed. Also note that the front wheels travel a different distance than the rear wheels.

f your car did not have a differential, the wheels would have to be locked together, forced to spin at the same speed. This would make turning difficult and hard on your car: For the car to be able to turn, one tire would have to slip. With modern tires and concrete roads, a great deal of force is required to make a tire slip. That force would have to be transmitted through the axle from one wheel to another, putting a heavy strain on the axle components.

Like most any other fluid in your vehicle, differential oils degrade over time and begin to loose some of their lubricating properties, Just like motor oil, they need to be changed out from time to time - just not as often!

Nothing is more inconvenient than failing your emissions test. Bring your printout from your state-inspected failed emissions test and we will diagnose and fix the problem for you. For most cars, we can retest the car for you right on the premises.

Fuel System

The fuel system feeds your engine the gasoline/diesel it needs to run. If any one of the parts in the system break down your engine will not run. Oil Service

Having your oil and oil filter changed is likely to generate the single biggest return on your routine-maintenance investment. It s important to use the recommended grade of oil for your vehicle for the best protection and fuel mileage.

Power steering spool valve with hardened, cracked seals.

Grooves are worn into the soft metal of the spool valve housing by hardened seals. Metallic debris from such wear accumulates in the fluid causing premature component failure!

Suspension

Tires

Choosing the best tires for your vehicle is extremely important. At Import Performance , we can help you choose the right tires for your vehicle to maximize performance and enhance your safety. We sell all of the major brands for your convenience.

Transmission Flush

Heat greatly affects the mechanical operation and your vehicle can be forced to work harder than necessary.
Transmission Technician

The transmission oil is critical for lubricating the transmission and reducing friction. When the fluid breaks down and loses its viscosity, it no longer effectively lubricates the transmission. This causes premature and excessive wear and results in transmission failure.

    We clean the entire transmission and replenish it with the use of special equipment
    We remove all of the old contaminated fluid from the transmission and its torque converter
    We add 100% new fluid and BG premium conditioners

One of the most frequently asked questions is, "When should I service my transmission?" Since heat is the number one cause of failures in transmissions, Import Performance recommends transmission service every 30,000 miles.

Manual transmissions can go a little further between services. If services have not been performed on a regular basis on high mileage vehicles, we advise owners to service their cars as soon as possible.

Brake Service.

When it comes to your car s safety, brakes top the list of systems that need monitoring. However, many prople are unaware of the signs that indicate a car s brakes may need maintenance or repair.

For routine maintenance, it s important to check the vehicle s braking system at least once a year. A thorough inspection should include brake lining wear, brake fluid level, rotor thickness, condition of hoses and brake lines, brake and dash warning lights, as well as taking the car for a test drive to detect other potential brake system problems. It is also important to be alert and recognize the danger signs of brake problems. Other warning signs include an illuminated brake warning light, brake grabbing, low pedal feel, vibration, hard pedal feel and squealing.

Although a squealing noise is the number one indicator that something is wrong, if the car pulls left or right when braking, or if the front end shakes, those are both signs of excessive brake wear. If the brake pedal begins to feel spongy, it could be a sign that air has entered the brake system or fluid is low.
